Monobloc wc 70x34 cm

The WC is the one bathroom fitting everyone uses every day, so it is worth choosing carefully. Most homes and projects in Nigeria come down to two styles: the wall-hung WC and the monobloc (close-coupled) WC. Here is how they compare and what to check before you buy.

What is a monobloc WC?

A monobloc WC is a floor-standing toilet with the cistern sitting directly on the back of the pan. Everything is visible and accessible, and it connects to a standard floor or wall waste outlet.

What is a wall-hung WC?

A wall-hung WC is fixed to the wall with the pan floating above the floor. The cistern is hidden inside the wall on a concealed frame, and you flush with a button plate on the wall.

Questions to ask before you buy

1. Is this a new build or a renovation?

Wall-hung WCs are easiest to fit when the wall is still open. In a renovation where you don’t want to break tiles, a monobloc WC is often the faster, cheaper option.

2. Where is your waste outlet?

Check whether the existing drain comes out of the floor or the wall, and measure the distance from the wall to the centre of the outlet. Matching the WC to the outlet saves a lot of extra plumbing work.

3. How much space do you have?

Measure the projection (how far the WC sticks out from the wall). Compact models are available in both styles and can make a big difference in a small guest toilet.

4. Do you want a matching bidet?

Many WC ranges have a matching bidet in the same style, so the room looks consistent. Decide early so the plumbing for both is planned together.
